File Copy: A section of the female APC members who defected to PDP in Sakwaya ward, Dutse LGA, Jigawa StateAt least 289 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sakwaya Ward, Dutse Local Government Area of Jigawa State, have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The mass defection, which took place on Friday at the PDP ward office, saw the party’s deputy state chairman, Umar Danjani, representing the state chairman to welcome the new entrants.
Danjani commended the turnout, describing it as a major boost for the PDP as it works to strengthen its base ahead of the 2027 elections. He assured the defectors of full integration into party activities and pledged continued grassroots mobilisation and inclusivity to consolidate the party’s position in the state.
“We welcome you wholeheartedly and promise to work closely with you to address your concerns and build a stronger Jigawa,” Danjani said, calling for peaceful political engagement as preparations for the next elections intensify.
Ward leader Mamuda Sakwaya also hailed the development as a significant milestone for the PDP, stressing that the party remains committed to the needs of Jigawa citizens while positioning itself for future electoral success.
Leader of the defectors, Mrs. Harira Sakwaya, wife of the APC ward chairman, expressed regret over their previous political allegiance, citing the APC’s failure to meet members’ expectations as the reason behind their decision. She disclosed that among the defectors were 273 women and 16 men.
