A man identified as Lawal Faruq has been apprehended for allegedly setting a woman ablaze following the collapse of their relationship.

According to counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, the incident occurred at Mami Market within Odogbo Barracks in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The victim, Omolola Hassan, was said to have been drenched in petrol and set on fire by the suspect, who was enraged over their breakup. Witnesses said soldiers at the barracks quickly intervened, put out the flames, and rushed the victim to Yawiri Hospital, Akobo, for urgent medical care.

The suspect, who reportedly claimed that the two had sworn never to part ways, is now in custody as investigations continue.

In a related incident earlier this year, a man from Abagana, Anambra State, allegedly set his wife ablaze following a family dispute. The victim, Chioma Nwana, succumbed to her injuries a day after being hospitalized. The husband later turned himself in at the Abagana Divisional Police Station, where he was detained.
