The African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) are at odds over the party’s recent leadership change.
INEC insists that the ADC has not met all requirements for official recognition of the new executives, while the party claims it followed due process.
The dispute began after former National Chairman Ralph Nwosu and the party’s National Working Committee resigned on July 1, paving the way for a new leadership led by ex-Senate President David Mark and former Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola. The Mark-led leadership was inaugurated on July 29 in Abuja, with INEC officials in attendance.
However, INEC records still list Nwosu as chairman, citing incomplete documentation, including missing sample signatures from the new leaders.
Some party members, including Gombe ADC governorship candidate Nafiu Bala, criticized the takeover as undemocratic and declared himself interim chairman.
ADC officials accuse INEC of dragging its feet, suggesting political bias, while insiders revealed that the initial leadership change report was improperly signed, causing administrative delays. The party says the issue has now been corrected and expects official recognition soon.
