Former Chief of Army Staff and ex-Ambassador to Benin Republic, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai (rtd), has firmly dismissed allegations linking him to the funding of terrorism.
In a statement released on Saturday by former Army spokesperson, Brig.-Gen. Sani Kukasheka Usman (rtd), Buratai described the claims as false, unfounded, and completely inconsistent with the values he upheld throughout his decades of service.
The statement stressed that at no point in his military or diplomatic career has Buratai been interrogated, investigated, indicted, or connected to any form of terror financing by any security or intelligence agency.
It added that no military, diplomatic, judicial, or administrative institution has ever implicated the former Army chief in sponsoring terrorism.
According to the statement, the allegation originated solely from retired Major-General Danjuma Ali-Keffi and was labeled as malicious, misleading, and entirely without evidence.
Buratai’s camp expressed disappointment, noting that this is not the first time attempts have been made to smear his reputation efforts they said have consistently failed due to his clear and well-documented service history.
The statement highlighted Buratai’s more than 40 years of active involvement in fighting terrorism, leading counter-insurgency operations, and recovering territories once held by Boko Haram and ISWAP.
It added that, during his tenure, the Nigerian Army restored governmental control in numerous communities, enabling displaced residents to return home.
Buratai has demanded a withdrawal of the report and a public apology from both the publisher and Ali-Keffi. He cautioned that failure to comply would leave him with no option but to take legal action to defend his name.
