A 27-year-old carpenter, Toheeb Ahmed, has been accused of killing his grandmother in Ore, the headquarters of Odigbo Local Government Area, Ondo State.
The tragic incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Tuesday at Aiyegbami Street, Ore. Residents claim Ahmed had been seen loitering suspiciously around the victim’s home for about a week before the attack.
According to one witness, Ahmed visited his shop on Tuesday morning and casually mentioned, “Mama is dead.” Initially, the resident felt pity, but grew suspicious when Ahmed urged him not to tell anyone. Out of curiosity, the man checked the old woman’s room and discovered she had been brutally hacked to death.
When Ahmed later returned, he was allegedly carrying a cutlass and accompanied by a friend, seemingly attempting to move the body. At that point, the alarm was raised.
Neighbours described the victim as a quiet woman and said her death was heartbreaking. Police have since taken Ahmed into custody, and the body has been taken to the morgue.
Ondo State Police spokesperson, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the arrest, stating that the suspect will be prosecuted once investigations are complete.
